ABOUT Jan Oberg…

I am an art photographer and a peace and future researcher living in Sweden. I have a long-term interest in China, which I visited for the first time in 1983.

My main project is SPAR - "Silk Peace Art Road" - which draws inspiration from the Belt and Road Initiative and the emerging multi-polar world.

It has three main components:

1) A large multimedia installation shown at the European Cultural Center during the 2019 Venice Biennale (seen by 330 000 and creating a lot of conversations);

2) Ten 'Combines' multimedia collage paintings, 60 x 60 cm on plywood, and

3) Some 30-50 photo prints on Canson fine art paper, normally A2 size, 42 cm x 60 cm.

Beyond its artistic appeal, SPAR can be a backdrop for intercultural dialogue about our global future and changing world order, especially in times when the West tends to cast China in only a negative light.

I am actively seeking collaborative partners in China - be it galleries, art spaces, museums, or institutions - that would find it interesting to exhibit SPAR in various cities across China in 2024 and beyond. 我正在積極尋找中國的合作夥伴——無論是畫廊、藝術空間、博物館還是機構——他們會發現在 2024 年及以後在中國各個城市舉辦 SPAR 展覽很有趣。

After China, I hope to have SPAR shown in some of the BRI capitals on its way back to Europe.

In summary, it is a rather large visionary, experimental project linking art, dialogue and peace across cultures - expressive of my two competencies and two lives.

The prints I show in this online gallery - just a small selection - are from 1983, from 2018 and later. They are for sale in signed, limited editions - whereas the large multimedia installation and the ten paintings are unique works for the travelling exhibition and cannot be sold before the end of the entire project.
